Ft. Worth Chooses Living Earth for Playground Surfacing

Living Earth was recently selected to provide the City of Fort Worth with engineered wood safety surfacing material for its park playgrounds. There are 205 playgrounds in the city’s current inventory of 291 parks. All playgrounds meet or exceed the Americans with Disability Act standards for accessibility.

According to several studies, engineered wood chips are not only the most economical ADA-compliant playground surfacing but also the most effective material for averting surface injuries. And, unlike rubber mulch, engineered wood chips are free of chemicals and synthetics.

Living Earth engineered wood safety surfacing material (Kiddie Cushion) is manufactured to meet the Uniform Wood Chip specifications listed in the Handbook for Public Playground Safety. When applied in compliance with the voluntary standard for playground surfacing systems, ASTM F1292, these engineered wood chips provide a safe surface that meets all ADA, CPSC, and ASTM guidelines. For optimal safety, we recommend raking the wood chips periodically to reduce compaction. And, as needed, use new chips to top off the playground surface and maintain the proper amount of cushioning.
