Mulch Coverage Calculator FAQs
How much mulch do I need?
Living Earth recommends applying a layer of mulch that is 3″ – 4″ in depth to ensure proper moisture retention, aid in weed abatement, and provide proper root insulation while making your beds look beautiful.
How can I calculate mulch coverage?
Using the cubic yard calculator above, you can calculate how much mulch you’ll be needing. Simply input the length, width, and depth (in inches) of the space you’d like to cover and it will calculate to the nearest cubic yard. If you have odd shaped beds, just try to “square off” the beds as much as possible. Remember, it’s always better to have a little more product than to not have enough!
How much area does a bag of mulch cover?
Living Earth’s organic mulch is also available by the bag. Our bags are 2 cubic feet, which covers about 24 sq ft at a depth of 1 inch.
Is it cheaper to buy mulch in bulk or bags?
This will depend on the amount of mulch needed for your project! Contact your local Living Earth facility for details on pricing. For those who are looking for products in bulk, Living Earth can deliver our quality mulch for orders that meet minimum order quantities.

What is an appropriate compost to soil ratio?

How do I determine how much compost I need?
Using Living Earth’s coverage calculator, input the length and width of the space you wish to use the compost on and use a depth of 1 – 3 inches. If you have an odd shaped area, do your best to “square off” the area as much as possible.
